Oh, what a day!

For those of you who don't know, we were in the process of selling our house and moving to a farm in southern Vermont when Matt had his accident. We had to put off the closing hoping to have Matt sign a power of attorney so that I could complete the closing. We are no where close to that happening, so I had to appear at court this morning to ask for a temporary guardianship. The judge was incredibly helpful and worked everything out for me so we can finally check that off our list - the closing is now on Monday!

So happy to have that accomplished, I was ready to come back to the hospital and see Matt before surgery. But while I was out, they extubated him! When we got back, he was tubeless and had both eyes open - it was amazing to see. He followed me with his eyes around his bed and uses his left hand alot. I was sitting by his bed reading and he kept pulling the book out of my hands and holding onto it. As long as things go okay tonight, this means he won't have to have a tracheostomy. He'll probably still be on the list for a feeding tube into his stomach because they don't think he'll be able to eat yet, but we'll see about that tomorrow.

As I overheard someone say today, we're still here waiting as fast as we can. I'll let you know whenever we hear anything else.

  1. Barb and I just read your last update. We just live to see the news. We are feeling happiness for Willie and all the people at Matt's bedside. You've thought the tubes were coming out and at last--the day is here.Brandon called Barb and filled us in about him going home and what his coworkers had done for him.
Love, kisses, and prayers, especially prayers for you, Keri and Matt,

  2. It was great to read a report that had lots of news and great news. We think it sounds like Matt's character is coming through as he pulls the book from you to get your attention. What a flirt!!

We think of you both constantly and pray that the progress continues steadily.

What a thrill to read your message today. Not all days will be so dynamic, but we know he's coming along because of the strength and love of everyone around his bed and across the miles.

    Our love,
    Doug and Penny

  7. Hey, Keri -

Now there is a following here at ISU as well - we learned just this week about what happened. We (Jan T., Annie Hawk, Joe C. Steve J. etc.) are all pulling for you both and thinking about you lots. This day's report does sound like good news.

  8. Keri and Matt,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you both. It sounds like very encouraging news for Matt to have a full recovery. As Jan Thompson said in her email know that there is a strong forestry support team behind you both. It is good to hear that the purchase of the farm can be completed.

We look forward to talking with you both as you give a tour of your farm!

with much respect, hope and love.
